Please everyone keep
your family and pets safe in this hot weather! As far as your lawn is
concerned there are a couple of things you can do to help it during
the hot summer temperatures.
When it comes to
mowing, if you have a fescue lawn make sure it is being cut between
3.5'' and 4'' high. Fescue is a cool grass and cutting it short
during the summer will end up killing your grass.
Watering your lawn is
very important also. We recommend setting your watering system
between 4am and 10am in the morning 3-4 times a week for
approximately 15-20 minutes.
Watering during the day is not a good
idea because believe it or not your lawn can get sun burned and the
water not only reflects the sun to cause more damage but also dries
up before getting to the roots.
Applying a nitrogen
rich fertilizer will also help to not only strengthen your lawn and
help to improve the color.
With these helpful
tips put into play your lawn should be able to survive the hot summer
sun. Have a great weekend and stay cool!

QCLL Customer: How much should I water my lawn and landscape?
Joe: This is the most asked question in our industry. Each lawn and landscape is different so there is no concrete answer, but there are some general rules:
Always water your lawn between 2am-10am. This is considered the natural dew point of the lawn. This is a great cultural practice that will help keep brown patch from occurring.
Water deeply, but infrequently. Watering 4-7 days a week is not effective and just wasting water. Watering 2-3 days a week is much more effective as long as you water deeply to ensure the roots are getting the benefit. If you can take a long flat head screwdriver and stick it into the ground with your hands, you are watering enough.
Shrubs only need a 1/3 of the water that fescue lawns need. Too many customers overwater their trees and shrubs. 9 out of 10 dead shrubs are because of TOO MUCH water!
TREE/SHRUB INSECT AND DISEASE TREATMENTS

PROPER MOWING
Fescue lawns are classified as a cool season turf. As the hotter temperatures approach, make sure you are mowing your lawn at 3.5 to 4 inches tall. This will help the cool season turf make it through the summer heat stress. Set you mower at its highest setting to get this height.

Summer Time Heat!
Now
that the summer heat has officially set in you want to make sure your
lawn is well protected. Here are a few key things you can do to make
sure your lawn stays green and alive:
1) Make sure you are
following proper watering instructions during these hot summer
months. Never water in the middle of the day. You want to water your
lawn 2-3 times a week for about 10-15 mins between the hours of
2am-10am.
2) Fescue lawns need to be cut to maintain a
height of 3.5-4 inches. Any shorter will stress out the lawn and it
will turn brown and possibly die. Keep your mower on the highest
setting possible!
3) Make sure to apply a 5-3-0 fertilizer to your
lawn in order to keep it strong and green. This application should be
applied 6-8 weeks apart during the summer.
4) Last but definitely
not least make sure to apply a fungicide on your lawn every 30 days
through out the months of May-August. With the high humidity and
heat, the lawn is a perfect breeding ground for Brown Patch which
will destroy and possibly kill your lawn.
If
you follow all of these rules then your lawn will stay green and
thick throughout the summer months. Contact us today and we can
schedule you for any of these you aren't already signed up for! Also
if you mention this posting then we will give you 10% off your first
treatment.
Hope you have a great rest of the week! And Hooray that summer is here!
